If you own an android smart phone then you are definitely
using Whatsapp messenger. Whatsapp is a free messaging app for android with
which you can send text messages and media files like images, audio files and
video files. Whatsapp requires an android phone with SIM support. Also you
require a working phone number to use it.
Whatsapp currently doesn’t support android tablets, but in this tutorial I will teach you to install Whatsapp on android tablets. The tablets can be Wi-Fi only android tablet or android tablet having SIM support. But do not worry as the this tutorial for installing Whatsapp on tablets will work on both types of android tablets like Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 SM-T900, Galaxy Tab 4, Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520 and all other android tablets.

Please Note: This tutorial is only tested on Samsung Galaxy Tablets. I am not saying that it will work on every android tablet. Day by day WhatsApp is getting updated so it may not work on tablets. It is officially not supported on larger screens and devices which do not have a SIM support. So, whatever I am writing here is just a tutorial trick that worked on Samsung Galaxy Tablets.
Install Whatsapp On Wi-Fi Only Android Tablets With No SIM Support
- Download and install the latest version of Whatsapp for android here.
- Now install the app. If install is blocked enable unknown sources. Then re-install the app.
- Now after installing the app, open it. When you open it you will see a welcome screen. Click the ‘Agree and continue’ button.
- When you click this button a note will open stating that “tablets are currently not supported.”. Click OK to begin the setup.
- On the next screen you need to enter your phone number and choose the right country where you lives in.
- Enter the phone number which you use often. Do not enter your friend’s phone number.
- After entering the phone number click OK.
- When you click OK a popup will open asking you to verify your phone number. Click OK again.
- Whatsapp will automatically try to send a sms to the number specified by you. But after few minutes the sms verification will fail.
- Now you will have to verify your number via voice call. Click the ‘Call me’ button to receive a voice call on that number. Hear the 6 digit verification code carefully. Enter this code in Whatsapp to verify your phone number.
- Now enter your name for Whatsapp profile and follow the instructions by clicking the ‘Next’ button on top right.
Now you have successfully installed Whatsapp on Wi-Fi only
android tablets with no SIM support. To add contacts in Whatsapp just save the
contacts list on your tablet and refresh the list in Whatsapp. Now you will
need a working data network for sending and receiving messages on Whatsapp. You
can use your smart phone’s network on your tablet via Wi-Fi hotspot, see this tutorial. Now Whatsapp will work on your android tablet.
If you encounter any problem while installing Whatsapp on
android tablet then feel free to ask via comments. Now learn to install Whatsapp on iPad without jailbreak.

Doesn't work. After click OK on message that tablet is not supported, it remais in the Agreement page, it don't forward tho activation phone number.
ReplyDeleteyes whatsapp will say tablet is not supported. But when this popup appears you have to click OK again to begin the setup. I have clearly mentioned this problem in the post. Read the post carefully.
DeleteThanks.
when i clicked on agree and continue, it showed alert that not suitable for tablet. still i clicked on 'ok' button. it went to code variafication, asked for retrive back, i said yes. then when it went to setup profile, its not moving ahead. always says can not connet
DeleteEven though I did what all u told to do so it says unable to connect !! Although my wifi is all fine!! What to do now??????
DeleteUse your phone's Wi-Fi hotspot. Then try the procedure again.
DeleteGhanashyam, I think this might be a connectivity problem. But if this happens with every network that you use then this tutorial will not work for you. Whatsapp have already announced that they are pulling their support from older android phones, Nokia and blackberry. Tablets are never supported. This article works on several samsung tablets but may not work on every tablet.
DeleteThanks bro it works
ReplyDeletethanx.
DeleteIt works a treat. Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteIts good to hear that it worked for you. Thanks.
DeleteDoes it work on samsung Tab 3 7 inch. And does samsung tab 3 support viber ?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, without any problem whatsapp will work on galaxy tab 3 and I haven't tried viber, you can check whether it works, but viber should work on galaxy tab 3 7 inch. Good Luck.
Deletecan i use instagram without sim
DeleteYes, absolutely.
DeleteDoes samsung tab 3 supports whatsapp and viber. Need help
ReplyDeleteWorked for me too but will only allow 1 whatsapp account on a single number. So whatsapp stopped working on my mobile phone. I tried to enter a landline phone number but it comes up with an error message and will not allow me to continue. Looks like you do need an active sim card somewhere to get whatsapp to work on a wifi tablet.
ReplyDeleteIt woorked for me too. great tip! BUT it will only allow 1 account per mobile number and therefore whatsapp stopped working on my mobile phone. i tried to enter a landline number but got an error messgae. Looks like you do need a sim card afterall. Any advice on how to make it work on both devices (but only have 1 mobile number)
ReplyDeleteWhatsapp only allows one phone number per device according to their policy. You can't use one phone number on multiple android or iOS devices.
DeleteHelp, yesterday i had to wait 6 hours to be able to get whatsapp back at my phone, after the six hours it worked. To check out my messages back on my tablet, i again put the number in my tablet to log in, but i am now not allowed to log in back on my phone until 23 hours away, why so long??😳😱now i cannot use my phone for a whole day to whattsap, now i have to walk alday with my tablet
DeleteWhatsApp can be used with one device only. If you have verified the number on tablet then you can't use it on phone simultaneously. Do one thing, re-install whatsapp and re-verify your phone number on your phone. It should work.
DeleteI use WiFi from landline number but I gave my cell number on whatsapp account. The problem is on every message to whatsapp my cellular company is deducting charges . what to do?
ReplyDeleteCheck whether mobile data is ON. While using wifi disable mobile network data. The company will deduct charges if you use mobile network data. If you feel that everything is ok then call them and ask for a solution. Which company cellular network you are using ?
DeleteWill it work on ipad2 and Dell Venue 7 tab?
ReplyDeleteYes it will work on ipad2 and dell venue 7 tab..
DeleteWorks great. Thank you.
ReplyDeletethank you works well
ReplyDeleteWill the groups made on whatsapp appear
ReplyDeleteThe whatsapp group will only be visible to group users.
DeleteThanks all installed but how do i get my contact list on my tablet now ?
ReplyDeleteJust save them on tablet and refresh contacts list in whatsapp. There is a contacts option in the android tablet where you can save them.
DeleteI enabled unknown sources but says next and install works without letting me click on it. Didn't pass from first screen then , didn't function me even with Internet connection by wifi.
ReplyDeletedownload the latest version of whatsapp and repeat the tutorial.
DeleteDoesn't call on my number, so cannot get verified.
ReplyDeletei have galaxy note 8....whatsapp is not working on it...i downloaded the app and installed it..but when i click on continue and agree it is showing that a cellular connection is required and when i click on ok..it ends...plz help me to use whatsapp on my tab...
ReplyDeleteInstall an older version or whatsapp on your note 8. Then upgrade it newer one. It will work.
DeleteWorking fine!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
I am wondering if I should buy a tab with SIM support or not just because of the reason being Whatsapp.
ReplyDeleteNow your post makes sense to an extent that if SMS verification fails, it will call your number. However the confusion is how will it call when you dont have a SIM card in the tablet.
I undnerstand that it is just this one time setup thing we need to bypass, but somehow skeptical about it. I dont wanna buy a tab and know that I wont be able to use Whatsapp on it.
You will get a call on the phone in which the Sim is inserted there is no relation on tablet. The sim can be of any phone. Whatsapp will call on that phone. SMS verification fails because the sms can't be sent via Wi-Fi tablet.
DeleteIt worked. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletehi, Thanks For the Post , I tried it on Galaxy tab 3, every thing went according to tutorial, till the voice verification. its says some thing about my client has been modified, in short .. it do not call... it ends there when click for voice verification, Need Help
ReplyDeleteUse a new phone number that is not using Whatsapp. Same number can't be used on two smartphones or tablets.
DeleteGreat...
ReplyDeleteEvry time when I switch back to my phone I need to verify again, en when I go back too my tablet the same. And this over en over again. Is there a solution fore this?
ReplyDeleteYou can't use the same phone number on tablet and phone. Use two separate phone numbers for both devices.
Delete"To add contacts in Whatsapp just save the contacts list on your tablet and refresh the list in Whatsapp''.
ReplyDeleteWhat Does This Mean???????
I mean to say that if you want to add someone on Whatsapp then save his/her mobile phone number in your tablet's contacts as you save in any phone. Then open Whatsapp tap the '+' sign on top right then press menu button and choose 'refresh'. If that person is registered with whatsapp then he/she will be showing in your whatsapp contacts. During refresh process please enable mobile data.
DeleteThat's the problem...I am using dell venue 7 tablet without sim... There is no such option to add contacts to the tablet...then how to add contacts...
DeleteYou can try this.
Delete1. First backup the contacts from other phone in VCF format.
2. Then copy this file to tablet.
3. Tap on it to import contacts on tablets.
4. If it helps then great otherwise you can't add contacts. Try some third party apps for doing this.
Works great!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks..
DeleteHow can I make contact list in hp slate 7
Deletewill it work on samsung tab 3 10.1 wifi
ReplyDeleteYes it will work on tab 3 10.1 wifi.
Deleteargh please write the reason why you need to use a phone number other than your own along with the "use another persons phone number bit" I had to reinstall whatsapp :(
ReplyDeleteYou can use your own phone number but it should not be using whatsapp on any other device. For example if your own phone number is registered with whatsapp on an android or ios phone then you can't use the same number for tablet until you delete your whatsapp account from that phone. Only one number can be used for one whatsapp account. Before deleting the account backup the conversation file and restore it on tablet. See the tutorial below.
Deletehttp://www.pcnexus.net/2013/06/how-to-backuprestore-and-transfer-whatsapp-messages-from-one-android-phone-to-other.html
After entering whatsapp name, it says 'unable to connect. Please try again later'
ReplyDeleteCheck your mobile data network connection.
DeleteI using dell mobile I am not able to download whatsapp it is showing no devices chosen so how do I install it
ReplyDeleteDownload whatsapp from "www.whatsapp.com/download" and choose android. BTW from where you are downloading whatsapp, please provide full info to get right support.
DeleteI have dell venue 7 with sim but no voice call.can I use WhatsApp in it?
ReplyDeleteYes absolutely. Follow the above tutorial to install whatsapp on dell venue 7.
DeleteHow can I change my profile pics or update status? Thanks for the great article.
ReplyDelete1. tap 'Menu>Status'.
Delete2. tap 'Settings>Profile'. Now tap the photo choose album or camera to upload the profile pic.
is it possible to restore nokia whatsapp backup without same sim card on another phone?
DeleteExact same problem here. My tablet has Wi-Fi connection only and that connection works properly. Also at @wa_status they say they're fine. What could be the problem?
ReplyDeletewhat problem you are facing?
DeleteHi Abhishek
ReplyDeleteThanks for the above post, I am planning to buy Dell Venue 7 for my dad who needs a basic tab but unsure of how to import contacts from his phone to this tab. He is using a basic phone (not a smartphone). Please advise. I want to gift this tab on his birthday next week and any help will be useful.
Thanks a lot!
Regards
Richa
Hello Richa whatever model of dell venue 7 you are buying please make sure it has following option.
Delete1. Tap menu and go to 'People'. Tap 'Create a new contact'.
2. Enter the name and save your contact.
If that model have this people option then you can save contacts in the tablets. So check this first. Good luck.
Got dell venue 7 WiFi only installed whatsapp but in verification it says download latest version though I downloaded latest version
ReplyDeleteWhatsapp is upgrading day by day for security purposes. So in future I can't say whether it will support tablets or not. BTW try downloading whatsapp from its official website then apply the above tutorial. If it still doesn't work then Whatsapp may have removed tablet support. Whatsapp is updated every 3-4 months and the old app version stops working own its own.
DeleteHi, I have note 10.1 and when it is verifying mobile number it keeps coming up with a message to download the latest version whereas I have downloaded the latest version. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteplease post screenshots of all the steps involved during the setup. After that I would reach a solution.
DeleteThe verification process produces a "Download the latest version" message then" OK" reverts to the verification process :(

DeleteHi!!
ReplyDeletei have a friend who is in Japan with Indian sim and Xperia phone. For some reason she had to format the phone and hence she lost whatsapp. Now when re installed it asks for SMS or call verification but since the sim dosent have service providers network none is possible. can anything be done?
Yes if you give her an Indian mobile phone number then the number can be verified. Whatsapp will send verification code to the number that you provide to her. When you receive the code tell her to enter the code in whatsapp for verification. Now she will be able to use Whatsapp in Japan with an Indian number.
Deletewill it work on acer iconia B1 A-71?
ReplyDeleteWill it work on Asus Memo Pad Hd 7
ReplyDeleteAccording to new whatsapp updates it is hard to say whether it will work or not. But you can try and check whether it is working or not.
DeleteHi Abhishek,
ReplyDeleteI could set up WhatsApp on galaxy tab s under owner's profile but not for another user profile created in tab s.
I could install and then when I enter phone number for verification I could get SMS on my cell which doesn't have WhatsApp. But just after entering the verification code I get error saying "Unfortunately, WhatsApp has stopped." and then WhatsApp closes/crashes. Please let me know if there is a solution for this.
Clean the app cache and re-install whatsapp. Repeat the process it should work.
DeleteHello Abhishek, am happy to see you replying/clarifying to the doubts of readers. Am waiting to see your write up on Dell Venue 7 or 8 for Whatsapp compatibility .
ReplyDeleteOK thank you, I will come up with a solution. Don't worry.
DeleteInstalled fine on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 but I had the problem others mention saying that none of my contacts use Whatsapp, and I couldn't add them. I logged in to my email (gmail) account in a web browser and added the mobile phone numbers of my friends to the Gmail contact details. Then I forced a sync on the Tab an all my contacts appeared in Whatsapp.
ReplyDeleteHope this helps someone.
Can this work, on the S3 without a SIM card?
ReplyDeleteIndeed. But you still need a Wi-Fi network.
DeleteMy Galaxy Tab 2 is not a phone, just a tablet. It works for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat.
DeleteI bought a galaxy Tab s several weeks ago, and installed whatsapp the way you suggested. It has been working very well ever since. But I have a small worry. The shopkeeper of the shop where I bought this tablet advised against saying yes to update suggestions from whatsapp, lest it will disable its own function, just to keep its promise of not supporting tablet computers. Should I believe him or not? Or will it simply become a self fulfilling prophecy, since whatsapp will naturally fail to work just because it has become too outdated a version? Actually my question is, will whatsapp do something new to disable itself in tablet computers, and, if so, how can I avoid this happening to my tablet? In the final analysis, I really don't understand for what reasons, commercial or otherwise, is whatsapp trying not to support tablet computers.
ReplyDeleteThere is no official word from Whatsapp whether it will support tablet computers or not. You can try this method I stated above. Don't believe anyone, just stick to this tutorial only.
ReplyDeleteIt works on my tab 2...... many thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteabhishek doe it work on dell vanue 8 without sim card ?
ReplyDeletehello abhishek, i m planning to buy micromax funbook p280 non calling tab
ReplyDeletem not sure whether whatsapp will work in this tab or not. plz confirm if whatsapp supports in this tab or not?
I will show you how to setup whatsapp on Nexus 7. If it works then it work on micromax funbook also. Plz give me 2-3 days.
DeleteWell Asus Fonepad 7 is better than micromax funbook.
Hi abhishek, how to save contacts on tablet without sim? i've tried many contacts apps but could'nt save contacts. can you come up with a solution?
ReplyDeletesave in google contacts.
DeleteI have a galaxy 3 tablet and I had to reinstall whatsapp. I used a free phone number from groove ip and I had whatsapp call the tablet to verify and after waiting 1 hr it says the number cannot be reached. I tested the number and it is working fine. Suggestions?
ReplyDeleteas per new updates, whatsapp may not support fake numbers.
DeleteHi Abhishek,
ReplyDeleteWill this solution work for Nexus 7 Wifi tablet as well?
Yes it will work on nexus 7 wifi tablet.
DeleteI tried to download Whatsapp onto Samsung tab 4 today but message came back "device not supported". Maybe I am too late. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteit worked on my tablet, i just received the code on my phone, and it works ok
ReplyDeleteThanks
Thanks Alexander, its good to hear..
DeleteHello, I use Xiaomi tablet, i install wait for sms failing, then call me fail and have to wait 1 hour , i dont know why call is failing.. i used my mobile phone number , ive got the sms but not the call. i dont know how to bypass this page of sms and call.
ReplyDeleteI have a Android 5 tablet, but not SIM card and no phone. I installed textplus to get a 'phone number' and am trying to use it for whatsapp (downloaded and installed the apk). When I get to the point of entering the phone number, I press OK and it says that it is 'not a valid mobile number' and refuses to connect.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions?!?
Thanks!
Whatsapp will work only with real phone numbers. Generated phone numbers will not work. Put the SIM on your phone and enter its number in Whatsapp, the SMS verification will fail, but your will receive a call on your phone, you will hear a Whatsapp verification code, feed this code into whatsapp on your tablet for verification.
DeleteThanks a ton PCnexus. Whatsapp on non sim tab worked fine.
ReplyDeleteThanx, I installed it and work perfectly. But how can I add contacts on it? In the phone I do this with the call app. And also I want to know if I can do phone call with it?
ReplyDeleteSave your contacts in Google. Whatsapp call can be made through tablet, use the headset.
DeleteDid it work on Lenovo tab3 7 essential

ReplyDeleteAre you getting any error or just blank screen? Does your tablet has front camera and which android version does it have. Older android versions like android 2.2, 2.3 don't support whatsapp anymore.
Delete
