Samsung has confirmed the android 4.4.2 kitkat update for galaxy S4 I9505 in February/March 2014. Recently a test firmware for galaxy S4 is released which is android 4.4.2 kitkat i9505XXUFNA1. However this is not the official android kitkat rom released by Samsung, this is just a leaked pre-release test firmware. - Don’t try on other versions of galaxy S4. It is meant to be applied on Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 model.
- If your device is rooted and after update you will lose root access.
- The binary counter will not increase by one and will not void warranty of your galaxy S4.

- Download ODIN 3.09 form this link.
- Install Samsung USB drivers for android phones.
- Now open ODIN on your windows pc but do not connect the device to pc yet. Switch off your device and start it in download mode by pressing the volume down,power key and home button at same time for few seconds.
- The device will reboot in download mode showing you the warning of installing a custom rom.Connect your galaxy S4 to pc now with a usb cable and press the volume up button. You will see that "ID:COM" field in ODIN will turn blue and it will return a message "<ID:0/011> Added!!".
- Only the "Auto Reboot","F. Reset Time" and the "AP" options should be checked and rest of the options should remain unchecked. See the screenshot below.
- Now your galaxy S4 is ready to be flashed with android 4.4.2 kitkat XXUFNA1 firmware. Now click “AP” but make sure to check the box in front of it and browse the kitkat ROM file and select it.
- Now Click “Start” to begin the flashing process.It will take few minutes to update the kitkat OS and the old stock ROM will be replaced by the latest one.
- After the flashing process ODIN will show you message “Pass” which means that your galaxy S4 has been successfully updated to android 4.4.2 kitkat. You can disconnect your device and reboot it to experience the android kitkat 4.4.2 OS.

- If your galaxy S4 is frozen or hanged permanently then remove the battery then put it back.
- Now reboot the device in revocery mode by pressing the home button,volume up and power key at the same time for few seconds.
- You can move up and down by pressing volume up and down buttons.Now select "wipe data/factory reset".
- The device will be wiped and factory reset.Then go back and select "wipe cache partition".
- After wiping cache partition go back and select "reboot system now".
- Now your galaxy S4 will work perfectly.
