Sony Xperia M is an awesome smartphone with a 1 GHz dual core CPU and powerful Adreno 305 GPU. Recently Xperia M has received a latest system update with build number 15.4.A.1.9. The android version is still 4.3 Jellybean. But the 15.4.A.1.9 firmware comes with some bug fixes. As I have previously told about the bugs in Sony Xperia M running on android 4.3 15.4.A.0.23 firmware. There were three bugs in total that are Google Now doesn’t work with long press home button, themes can’t be downloaded from Sony select and empty live wallpaper bug. The new update 15.4.A.1.9 comes with these bug fixes and performance enhancements and also battery drain bug is also fixed. So if you have Sony Xperia M and want to update it to make it bug and lag free then you are at right place. So lets start.
Warning: Currently users of Xperia M are facing an update problem via PC companion and Sony Update Service in which the firmware download gets stuck at 99% and shows 16 hours 34 minutes remaining. I would suggest you not to use Sony PC companion or Sony Update Service (SUS) to update Xperia M unless you receive OTA notification on your phone otherwise update will get stuck at 99% permanently and will your 2 GB of internet data will be wasted.

You can use Sony Update Service to update your Xperia M to android 4.3 Jellybean 15.4.A.1.9 firmware. Follow the steps below.

Pre-Requisites
- Backup entire data stored on your phone like photos, music and videos.
- Backup android apps with data with built in app called ‘Backup & restore’. Read this tutorial.
- This tutorial is applicable to only Xperia M C1904 and C1905 models.
- Xperia M Dual C2004 and C2005 models are not supported.
Update Sony Xperia M To Latest Android 4.3 Jellybean 15.4.A.1.9 Firmware
By Using The Update Centre App
- Open update centre app on your Xperia M and tap the refresh button on top right. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi or 3G network because the update size is 785.3 MB.
- After refreshing a notification will appear on your phone as shown in image below.
- Tap to download the update.
- Wait for the update to be downloaded.
- After the download your phone will automatically reboot in recovery mode and upgrade the software.
- After complete upgrade the phone will reboot to home screen. You can check the android version in “Settings>System>About phone>Build number”. It should be 15.4.A.1.9.
- You have successfully updated your Xperia M C1904/C1905 to latest android 4.3 15.4.A.1.9 firmware.
You can use Sony Update Service to update your Xperia M to android 4.3 Jellybean 15.4.A.1.9 firmware. Follow the steps below.
- Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or high speed network. Download Sony Update Service.
- Install it and open it.
- On the starting page accept the terms and click ‘Start’.
- Now choose Xperia M from list of the phones and click next.
- Now switch off your phone. Wait for few seconds then press and hold volume down button then immediately connect it to PC via USB cable.
- The LED light will blink in Red and Green color.
- With this method Sony Update Service checks your phone’s current software and tell whether an update is available.
- In next step SUS will show that an update is available. Click ‘Install’.
- Now SUS will download the software update. Your phone will remain turned off until the update is complete. Do not disconnect the phone at this time.
- After firmware download the phone will be automatically upgraded. Disconnect it when phone boots to home screen.
