When it comes to powerful computing then Intel always made pentium processors to deliver the performance at low cost. Acer Aspire E5-511-P58T is the latest 15.6 inch notebook from Acer blessed with latest 4th generation Intel Pentium Quad Core processor. Acer E5-511-P58T, is the first notebook to feature a M-Disc ready optical drive. I am going to review this notebook that would help you decide whether to buy this or not if you are low on budget. This notebook is meant for powerful computing at low price. Since it features a fourth generation quad core pentium processor with Intel HD graphics 4400 it is best suited for running heavy applications like Visual Studio, Adobe Photoshop, Autocad etc. Also you can play most games upto 2013 on it. Lets start with its specifications.
1. Build Quality : The build quality is good. The keyboard keys has wider space as compared to other 15.6 inch notebook. So you will see that the keyboard is bit bigger than laptops in this range. It is plus point because typing is easier when there is more space between keys. The keyboard plastic has a plain finish with chicklet style. Power button is located on top left corner. The touchpad is big enough and there are no separate mouse buttons as they are unified in the touchpad. The below left corner of touchpad is left click button and other corner is righ click button. The one thing you may not like is the arrow keys are smaller as compared with other notebooks. So while playing games with these arrow keys you may find it tricky, but you will get used to it over time. The ACER logo is located on the screen border with webcam and microphone on the top of the screen. The air vents are wider so the notebook is capable of getting more air from these vents as a result the CPU will run cooler without overheating.
2. Processor : Acer Aspire E5-511-P58T features 4th generation Intel Pentium Quad Core N3540 clocked upto 2.16 GHz. Its burst frequency is 2.66 GHz which is similar to turbo boost in Intel Core processors. This CPU is powerful enough to run heavy applications like Visual Studio, Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk autocad, programming tools and android SDK. Since its a PQC its performance is similar to Intel Core i3 3217U. The Intel N3540 features a 22nm die size with power consumption of just 14 Watts(TDP). This processor was released by Intel in Q3’2014 which means in between July-Sep 2014. This processor can automatically overclock itself upto 2.66 GHz.
Note: Please note that similar notebooks from Acer have same specifications except the processor which is Intel Pentium Quad Core N3530. N3530 is older than Intel PQC N3540. So before buying please make sure that the notebook should have Intel PQC N3540 inside.
3. Graphics : Acer Aspire E5 has Intel HD graphics 4400 mobile, which is enough to run most heavy applications as I mentioned above. Also you can play most games upto 2013. At full resolution(1366x768) the games will lag a little. This GPU has shared memory so it will consume your system RAM. So 2 GB is not sufficient to run games. You have to upgrade the system memory if you want to play games smoothly. A total of 4 GB RAM is recommended for gaming on this notebook.
4. Hard Drive : It comes with 500 GB hard drive with sata configuration. If you want then you can install a SSD in place of optical drive for blazing fast performance on this notebook.
5. USB 3.0 : This notebook has one USB 3.0 port along with 2 USB 2.0 ports. USB 3.0 is 10x faster than USB 2.0 when it comes to data transfer via USB. The transfer speed will greatly depend on the USB device used.
6. M-Disk Optical Drive : Acer Aspire E5-511-P58T is the first notebook to feature a M-Disk ready optical drive. M-Disk is a blu-ray disk with capacity of 25 GB. The life of M-Disk is said to be 1000 years and it is resistant to extreme temperature upto 200 degree celcius. This is a special feature and can be found in Acer notebooks till date. You can write M-disc’s via this notebook and can store your precious data on these discs.
7. Battery : Acer Aspire E5-511-P58T has 5000 mAh battery which gives maximum backup of upto 7 hours with normal usage. Well 7 hours of battery backup cannot be found in every notebook today. The battery is of 6 cells and will give you good backup even in mixed usage. This notebook has similar battery performance as of an ultrabook which may give you around 9 hours of backup but these ultrabooks are much more costlier than this laptop. I would say its a cheap ultrabook. The battery is removable type. Due to its large charge holding capacity it is suitable for office work and can continuosly run upto seven hours, so you do not need to charge it again and again.
The Acer Aspire E5-511-P58T is priced at 21000 INR or $350 dollars in the U.S.
Well I will recommend this notebook to you if you want a portable computer whose processor is latest and powerful, which has large battery backup, which has integrated graphics to run games and most of all which is selling at very low price from a trusted brand ACER.
