How To Update Moto G 1st Gen To Android 5.0.2 Lollipop


The Motorola Moto G 1st Gen has now started receiving android 5.0.2 Lollipop update. The device was launched almost 2 years ago with android 4.4.4 KitKat and now it has received the lollipop update. Moto G was the first android smartphone from Motorola that started a line of smartphones having powerful specifications available at low price. With a revamped android 5.0.2 Lollipop update the Moto G will get a new look and feel as if it is a new cell phone.

The new software enhancements include Material Design with a brand new colorful looks and fluid animations. A new and important feature includes Ambient Display which can show notifications without turning on the full display. This will be activated when a notification arrives.

Another important feature includes 'Flashlight' in quick settings. Now no need to download separate flashlight apps to use your Moto G camera flash as torch. Guest mode lest you restrict access to your content. It is activated by default.

Moto G 1st Gen Lollipop adds native support for allowing trusted devices to keep your phone unlocked (such as your Moto 360, a Bluetooth car kit or headset, etc.).  Smart Lock replaces the prior trusted device capability in your Motorola phone.  Note that you will need to add your trusted devices back after the transition to Lollipop in the Security settings menu under Smart Lock.

The Moto G 4G in USA will not get this update as it will be update directly to android 5.1 Lollipop later.

How To Update Moto G 1st Gen To Android 5.0.2 Lollipop

Make sure your cell phone's battery should be charged to 50% or more and you should have a working Wi-Fi or data connection.

If you have received a notification message for this update:

  • Select "Yes, I’m in".
  • After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".
  • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  • Your phone is now updated.
If you have not received a notification message for this update, follow the steps below to manually update your phone:

  • Select the Settings icon in the apps menu.
  • Select "About phone".
  • Select "System updates".
  • Select "Yes, I’m in". After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".  
  • After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
  • Your phone is now updated.
Note : If after updating your Moto G to android lollipop you feel that your phone has become slow then clear the cache partition in recovery mode. Cache partition contains files from previous OS that may slow down your phone.
